Fine dining in the Casa Velha – Michelin Star Award for the hotel’s gastronomy consultant

Benoît Sinthon was head chef at Casa Velha do Palheiro between 1999 and 2004 and recently reached the highest culinary recognition.
He has seen his work awarded by receiving a Michelin Star at the Gallo D’Oro Restaurant, the gourmet restaurant of the Cliff Bay hotel. He continues his connection with Casa Velha do Palheiro by directing its kitchen team, being its gastronomy consultant since 2007.

Palheiro Spa

Palheiro Spa opened in the summer of 2009

Palheiro Golf in Europe’s top 100 Golf courses

Palheiro, the Cabell Robinson designed, 18 hole par 72 golf course, which opened in 1993 and was imaginatively redesigned in 2003, has made Golf World’s 2009 list of Europe’s top 100 golf courses.

Balancal

Bill and Christina from the United States were the Balancal’s guests for a few days in the third week of July 2009. We were delighted to hear that Christina had booked this charter as a 40th birthday gift for her husband!

Like most of the anglers fishing at this time of the year, our guests were hoping to see a big Madeiran blue marlin. This isn't always an easy task - most blue marlin caught and released in Madeira are the result of much hard work by the skipper and crew in selecting and working the right grounds, preparing the gear beforehand and coaching the angler during the fight.
